Fakel chief executive says club have lowest budget in RPL

Voronezh”Torch “has the smallest budget among RPL teams, club CEO says Roman Askhabadze .

At the end of last season, Fakel reached the first division of Russian football. After 17 rounds of the WORLD RPL, the Voronezh team is in 13th place in the standings with 13 points.

– Fakel has the smallest budget in the RPL, and today the club generates most of that money themselves. And we will move on to the next steps. We are looking for opportunities to open new points of sale of our paraphernalia. Now there are logistics and supply issues, but we will still develop this area. Another thing is that it’s still a drop in the bucket. Because the most important thing is the infrastructure. I’ve been talking about it since 2019. The club will have its own infrastructure, which it can market – there will be high-quality catering, commercial tournaments and much more.

We have a pool of partners – these people have become our fans, they like working with the club and care about it. Do you think that if we had spent five brilliant months in the RPL, the main sponsor, a large company, would immediately come to us? It does not work like that. Yes, they started talking about us – it’s the merit of the fans and the club, which is becoming more and more open. But in modern conditions, this is not enough for most sponsors.

Historically, no company in Russia has been associated with investments in football clubs for many years. We do not touch Lukoil, Gazprom – these are separate stories. Otherwise, private companies most often come to football when there is a personal interest of the head of this company. And if he doesn’t like football and his company’s business is good, why does he need all this? Askhabadze said in an interview with the club’s press service.

He also denied media reports that in 2023 the club’s budget will be around one billion rubles.

– The club can’t have a billion. Most of the season has already passed, if we also take the second half of the championship, there are no such amounts and there will not be. In general, counting the budget for a calendar year is strange, football clubs live through seasons. And they form budgets for the season. But we are working to make sure we have new partners. Work continues both on the club side and on the regional government side, Askhabadze stressed.
