Vladimir Afanasyev, member of the RFU executive committee and president of the Volga Football Union, told Sport24 that he does not know the reasons for the postponement of the vote on the transfer of the RFU to Asia.
RFU president Alexander Dyukov said last week that the final decision on a possible transfer to the AFC would be made on December 27. Until the 31st, the RFU has time to apply for the Russian team to have time to participate in the qualification for the 2026 World Cup. Previously it became known that the vote of the RFU executive committee on this issue had again been postponed and should take place before the end of the year.
– The vote of the executive committee has been postponed, but I don’t know yet what this is related to. The reasons are unknown to me,” Afanasyev said.
At the end of February, UEFA and FIFA suspended Russian teams and clubs from participating in international tournaments due to the situation in Ukraine.
