Former CSKA and Russian national team midfielder Yevgeny Aldonin believes that Russian Football Union (RFU) did the right thing by shifting the decision on a possible transition to the Asian Football Confederation (AFC).
On December 30, the executive committee of the RFU passed. The union, together with UEFA, FIFA and the IOC, will create a working group that will work on the issue of Russian football’s return to international competitions by April 1. The main task is to return to UEFA competitions as soon as possible.
– You can never rush, because in the question of moving to Asia, everything is not very clear to the end. I understand that there is a tacit agreement on the transition, but if this mechanism works and we are accepted… then how will FIFA react to this? Will they give us the opportunity to fight for a ticket to the World Cup – that is the question. Maybe we will be allowed to fight for a ticket, then they will not be allowed to participate in the tournament. Therefore, the situation must be known thoroughly and with certainty. The RFU made the right decision – take your time and find out all the points, – Aldonin quotes the “Championship”.
