The Brazilian port of Santos will bear the name of the triple world champion Pele . This was reported by Jovempan.com in reference to the future Minister of Ports and Airports of Brazil, Marcio França.
Pelé died Thursday at the age of 82 after a long battle with cancer.
The exact date of the solemn port renaming ceremony is currently unknown. The publication noted that the port of Santos is one of the busiest in the world. The port city itself is called the main sea gate of the state of São Paulo. Pele has spent most of his career at local club Santos.
Pelé is the only three-time football world champion (1958, 1962, 1970). He played 92 games for Brazil and scored 77 goals.
