Striker for Paris Saint-Germain and the Brazil national team Neymar will attend the farewell ceremony of the three-time football world champion Pele reports L’Equipe.
According to the newspaper, Neymar arrived in Brazil on Sunday. The farewell to Pele will take place on Monday at the Santos club stadium, the ceremony will begin at 10:00 a.m. local time (4:00 p.m. Moscow time).
Pelé died on December 29 at the age of 82 after battling colon cancer. Earlier it became known that the Brazilian’s body stopped responding to chemotherapy.
The farewell to the legendary footballer will last a day and a half. The ceremony is also expected to be attended by Brazil’s current president, Jair Bolsonaro, and elected head of state, Lula da Silva. Pele’s body will then be carried through several streets of the city and taken to the ‘Ecumenical Necropolis’ memorial, where it will be buried in a ceremony reserved exclusively for close friends and family.
Pelé is the only triple world champion (1958, 1962, 1970). He played 92 games for Brazil and scored 77 goals. At club level, the striker played for Brazilian Santos and New York Cosmos.
