A Brazilian scholarship is named after Pelé

Sao Paulo Mayor Ricardo Nunez has announced that the Bolsa Atleta Scholarship will be renamed after Pele .

The scholarship will be called Bolsa Atleta Pele. According to the official, the scholarship will benefit more than 5,000 children in the city. Bolsa Atleta is a financial aid package provided by the government to gifted athletes.

– I have already spoken with the Minister of Sports about the expansion of the scholarship, which is of fundamental importance. Children should be able to play sports, especially in the outskirts of Sao Paulo, Nunes said in an interview with iG.

“In addition, we are going to build a gymnasium in Ibirapuera Park, where there is a bike path, it will be the Pelé gymnasium”, added the mayor of Sao Paulo.

Nunes took part in the farewell to Pelé. The coffin with the body of the only three-time football world champion in history was delivered to the Vila Belmiro bullring earlier on Monday. The first to enter the stadium at 10:10 a.m. local time (4:10 p.m. Moscow time) were friends and relatives of the former footballer. Access to the arena will be open to everyone until 10 a.m. Tuesday.
