The prestigious French newspaper chose La Pulga as the most outstanding male athlete of the year, ahead of the French striker, Rafael Nadal and Max Verstappen, among others. Meanwhile, Polish tennis player Iga Swiatek has been chosen as the champion of champions.
After leading the Argentine team to its third star in the World Cup in Qatar, Lionel Messi was chosen by The Team like the champion of champions. The prestigious French newspaper, which awards the distinction from 1946 to French territory and from 1975 later to the whole world, rewards the most outstanding athlete of the year.
The specialized journalists of the illustrious newspaper are responsible for carrying out the vote. The vote establishes a ranking featuring athletes from various disciplines. From a list of nominees, each voter chooses the top five athletes of the season. First place is worth six points, second four, third three, fourth two and fifth only one point. It should be noted that since 2012, two trophies have been awarded, leaving aside the mixed distinction.
This year’s trophy had a lead actor. The Albiceleste captain, who added 808 points, overtook the rest of the nominees by a big difference and was chosen as the most outstanding athlete of the year. The Argentine has many arguments to get the accolade but the newspaper’s decision is striking. The French half excluded Messi from the list of 30 nominees for the 2022 Ballon d’Or, so the award ceremony, some four months later, is contradictory to say the least.

In this line, as in the planetary event, La Pulga beat Kylian Mbappé and won the prize. The French striker, who scored 381 points, was in second place in the voting, far behind his teammate in the Paris Saint Germain .
In addition to surpassing the Parisian, the South American star left behind great sports stars. Messi won against Rafael Nadal, winner of two Grand Slam tournaments; Remco Evenepoel, best male cyclist of the year; Max Verstappen, double Formula 1 champion; and Stephen Curry, Golden State Warriors figure in winning a new NBA ring, among other outstanding athletes.
