Biathlete Babikov explained why he could not enter football school as a child

Biathlon World Champion Anton Babikov told that as a child he couldn’t get into a mini football school due to poor acceleration during test sessions.

– Did you think in your youth not to choose biathlon, but something else?

– I do not remember. Probably because there was no alternative. Although I had no desire to go to training, I found no addiction to anything else. Thank goodness I wasn’t in bad company to take me anywhere, and there was no sport that would give me the same oneness with nature as biathlon. I tried to go to football, but they expelled me several times,” Babikov said in an interview with .

– Why?

– I accelerated badly, and now I do it badly (laughing).

Is that a reason to get fired?

— Yes, yes, there was a strong futsal section which sent the team to international competitions. Every day 5-6 people came to watch it, so the coach had to do some quick tests to figure out who was predisposed to what. The shuttle was not my story.

Babikov is the 2017 world relay champion. In addition, the 31-year-old biathlete has won the European Championships four times.
