Barcelona forward Ferran Torres and Atlético defender Stefan Savic risk getting disqualified from 4 to 12 matches.
Players have earned removals in the match of the 16th round of Atlético’s examples with Barcelona (0:1). In a fight with each other, Ferran began to grab the Montenegrin by the hair, while Stefan tried to strangle the Spaniard’s neck.
The players are awaiting the decision of the Competition Committee. If the incident is interpreted as a rough game episode, both can receive a standard three-match suspension. If the Committee decides that the behavior of the players was unsportsmanlike, the players risk a 4 to 12 match ban from all Spanish competitions.
Note that the standard punishment for a red card will apply to matches of the championship of Spain. In this case, Ferran Torres will be able to play in the Spanish Super Cup.
Barcelona scored 41 points and single-handedly topped La Liga. Atlético remains in fifth place with 27 points.
In the next match, Xavi’s wards will play Real Betis in the Spanish Super Cup on January 12. Diego Simeone’s team will face Almeria on January 15 in the Spanish league.
