The international separation of football representatives from the aggressor country is upheld and will continue.
The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in Lausanne dismissed the RFU’s appeal against the suspension of Russian teams from participating in international tournaments.
Four clubs from the aggressor country tried to appeal against the previous decision, but their arguments did not convince the court and the disqualification remained in effect.
“It is not so much about the military conflict, but about the unusual and unprecedented consequences, namely: the widespread condemnation of the military conflict, the reaction of the sports community to the conflict, the imposition of sanctions and entry bans in Russia. The presence of Russian people on the international stage could cause protests and escalate into violence,” the CAS decision said.
The disqualification remains valid for club teams and for Russian national teams in all age categories.
Recall that UEFA previously suspended the Russian national football team from participating in Euro 2024.
