Mudrik: Nobody expects me to win the Ballon d’Or, but one day it might happen

This is one of the young winger’s personal goals.

Winger Miner Mikhail Mudryk shared his emotions after receiving the award for the best player of 2022 according to the Pitmen’s fans. The 22-year-old player noted that he dreams of becoming the owner “Golden Ball”.

“I consider this award the result of not only my individual work, but the work of the whole team. Thanks to the fans for their support. We will work further. I will rate my progress over the year as not bad, but you can always be better. Therefore, one should not stop, but go towards new goals, look for new challenges,” Mudrik said.

“As for the Golden Ball, I don’t know how to estimate the probability of this in percentage terms, but everything is real. No one expected me to win the Shakhtar Player of the Year award in 2021, and no one expects me to win the Ballon d’Or either, but one day it might happen. This is one of my personal goals.”

Mudryk was named Shakhtar’s best player for the second year in a row. 13,131 fans voted for Mikhail (76% of the total number who took part in the poll). Second place went to goalkeeper Anatoly Trubin (2295 votes), third place went to midfielder Taras Stepanenko (1893 votes).

Mudrik is actively linked with a move to Arsenal. The Gunners’ latest offer is a guaranteed €70m plus €20-25m in bonuses.

This season, Mikhail played in 18 matches for Shakhtar, scoring 10 goals and providing eight assists. Now the Ukrainian is in Turkey, where Igor Jovicevich’s team is preparing for the second part of the season.

Shakhtar is in second place in the UPL standings. The Pitmen will play with Rennes in the 1/16 finals of the Europa League in February.
