Shakhtar president commented on Mudrik’s transfer to Chelsea
Shakhtar President Rinat Akhmetov spoke with statement about transfer to Chelsea winger Mikhaila Mudrika and launch of the “Heart of Azovstal” project.
“Football club Shakhtar signed a final agreement with London’s Chelsea – Ukrainian footballer Mykhailo Mudryk will continue his career with the Aristocrats in the strongest national championship – the English Premier League.”
“First of all, I want to thank the entire civilized world for helping Ukraine. Thanks to the Ukrainian army, the Ukrainian people and the huge support of the entire civilized world, today we can talk about Ukrainian football. Only together we will defeat the evil that has come to our house.”
“Today I have mixed feelings. On the one hand, I am happy for Mikhail and proud of him. This guy proved by his own example that the impossible can become possible thanks to talent and hard work. I am absolutely sure that the whole of Europe will applaud Mikhail’s bright, beautiful game.
“On the other hand, I have never hidden that my dream is to win European trophies. This means that players like Mudryk should be invited to our club, to our Ukrainian championship and win European trophies with such players, and not root for them, even when they play in the best clubs in the world. Unfortunately, this is impossible now, because in Ukraine there is a vile, unjust war unleashed against us by the Russian Federation. But I am convinced that we will win. And we will play a friendly match against Chelsea at the Donbass Arena in Donetsk, Ukraine.”
“That is why I decided to launch the Heart of Azovstal project to help the defenders of Mariupol and the families of fallen soldiers. Their feat is unparalleled in modern history. It is thanks to them, their sacrifice and courage in containing the enemy in the first months of the war that we all today feel the inevitability of the Victory of Ukraine.”
“Today, I allocate 1 billion hryvnias to help our soldiers and defenders, as well as their families. They will be aimed at different needs – from treatment, psychological assistance, prosthetics to the implementation of targeted requests. To comply with the principles of transparency, a professional, independent team will be formed that will interact with the defenders of Azovstal, their families, patronage services, and volunteers.”
Mudrik signed a contract with Chelsea for eight and a half years. The Ukrainian will perform in Chelsea under the 15th number. The winger with the Ukrainian flag on his shoulders entered the field at Stamford Bridge during the break of the match of the 20th round of the Premier League with Crystal Palace (1:0).
Mudrik’s transfer from Shakhtar to Chelsea has become the most expensive winter signing in Premier League history.
