Leader of the Russian Premier League (RPL) Ashot Khachaturyants said that he did not discuss a possible cooperation with Fonbet after the Russian Football Union conference, which was held on Saturday May 28 in Moscow.
Khachaturyants and Fonbet CEO Sergey Anokhin left the room early and talked for several minutes in the lobby. Earlier it became known that bookmaker Fonbet will form a bid for the RPL after La Liga Stavok decided to stop cooperating with the league.
“The contract was not discussed,” Khachaturyants told reporters when asked about cooperation with Fonbet.
In May, UEFA suspended Russian clubs and national teams from participating in tournaments under its auspices for at least the 2022/23 season due to the situation in Ukraine. Many Legionnaires left RPL clubs. In mid-May, La Liga Stavok told that the desire not to sign a new contract with the RPL was due, among other things, to the withdrawal of clubs from European competitions and the departure of legionnaires, and the amount of the contract is six times the budget of previous seasons.
