Mudrik’s move is the most expensive winter transfer in Premier League history

The signing of the Ukrainian entered the top five largest in history among English clubs

Winger transfer Mikhail Mudrik from Shakhtar to Chelsea became the most expensive winter signing in history Premier League.

The £89m (€100m) deal has comfortably surpassed defender Virgil van Dijk’s previous winter record. In 2018, Liverpool paid Southampton £75m for the Dutchman.

Also, the transfer of the Ukrainian is one of the five largest in the history of English clubs. Manchester United paid the same £89m in 2016 for Juventus midfielder Paul Pogba. The lead is held by the transfer of winger Jack Grealish from Aston Villa to Manchester City for £100m.

Mudrik signed a contract with Chelsea for eight and a half years. The Ukrainian will perform in Chelsea under the 15th number. The winger with the Ukrainian flag on his shoulders entered the field at Stamford Bridge during the break of the match of the 20th round of the Premier League with Crystal Palace (1:0).

Chelsea and Shakhtar agreed to move Mudrik for 100 million euros. Chelsea are guaranteed to pay 70 million euros, and Shakhtar can receive another 30 million in the form of bonuses.

Chelsea have narrowly beaten Crystal Palace (1-0) and are in tenth place in the Premier League. The Blues will next play Liverpool away on 21 January.
