Palkin: If Mudrik wins the Ballon d’Or, there will be no bonuses

Chelsea could win the Champions League or the Premier League, after which additional payments will follow

General director Miner Sergei Palkin revealed the financial details of the sale of the Ukrainian midfielder Mikhail Mudrik to London Chelsea.

“In general, Chelsea and Arsenal have offered about the same amount. Not about the same – it was the same figure. Fixed part, variable part, bonuses. But if you look inside the fixed part and bonuses, it was quite different.”

“Different payment schedule, different types of bonuses. Yes, we can talk about bonuses, but these bonuses should be somehow achievable and realistic, so to speak. Therefore, in this case, Chelsea was much more serious and fair in some moments.

“When we met with the Chelsea representatives, we all stayed together. To give you context, it was nine or ten o’clock. They invited the player and explained the whole project to us. We understand that Chelsea have some problems right now, but that’s okay because they have a transition period from one owner to another. This is clear”.

“They would like to change a lot. So when they explain the whole story to you and you look at the next two, three, four, five years, then you see that they have a serious project. I believe they will build one of the best clubs in the world because I tell you they are very serious in every way: sports science, stadium, commerce, everything. For us, they looked very ambitious.”

“The deal with Chelsea includes additional conditions if they win the Premier League or the Champions League. However, there is no clause regarding Mudrik’s victory in the Ballon d’Or nomination. These are achievable bonuses that we feel and they feel can be achieved. Maybe not this year, but in the next two, three or four years.”

Mudrik has signed an eight-and-a-half-year contract with Chelsea and will wear number 15 at Chelsea. Mudrik’s transfer from Shakhtar to Chelsea has become the most expensive winter signing in Premier League history. The salary of the Ukrainian will be 150 thousand pounds a week.

In the race for Ukrainian talent, Chelsea overtook Arsenal. According to Palkin, the Pitmen were not satisfied with the system of payments from Arsenal, so the Donetsk club accepted Chelsea’s offer.

Mudrik himself at the beginning of the year received the award for the best player of 2022 according to Shakhtar fans. The 22-year-old player noted that he dreams of becoming the owner of the Golden Ball.

The Graham Potter team after the victory over Crystal Palace scored 28 points and is in 10th place. Chelsea will play Liverpool next on January 21st.
