Tsygankov: I don’t want to be a leader, I just want to help Girona stay in La Liga

Ukrainian midfielder is preparing for his debut in the championship of Spain

Newbie Girona Victor Tsygankov at a press conference, he spoke about the decision to continue his career in the Spanish Championship and his goals in the new club. The midfielder also spoke about the war in Ukraine.

“I am really happy to be in Girona. Pere [Гвардиола] and the head coach have done a lot for me. I spoke to them and they really wanted me to be here,” Tsygankov said.

“I haven’t trained with the team yet. But I hope to be ready as soon as possible. Maybe for the next game. I will try to do my best and fight for this club.”

Why did you move to Girona? Because people wanted me here and this is one of the best leagues in the world. This is La Liga. Pere has done a lot for me and my family since the summer. He showed me the club, how the team plays. We have attended the last two home games and I really liked this style of football. I hope I can play well for Girona.”

“War in Ukraine? This is a disaster for our people, our country. Now you can’t even imagine what could happen. Today they attacked again, killed children, people. This is a really difficult situation for our country. I hope this ends as soon as possible.”

“I don’t want to be the leader. I just want to help the team with results, help them stay in La Liga and play the perfect football that Girona has shown in every game.”

Tsygankov has signed a contract with Girona until the summer of 2027. The Spanish club paid five million euros for the midfielder. Also, Dynamo will receive 50% of the amount of the subsequent resale of the Ukrainian.

This season, the 25-year-old Ukrainian has played 23 matches for Dynamo in all competitions, scoring 9 goals and providing six assists.

Girona is 11th in La Liga with 21 points. In the next match, the White-Reds will play away with Villarreal on January 22.
