The Ukrainian experienced in the first home match in the new club
Ukrainian midfielder of Marseille Ruslan Malinovsky shared his impressions in the new team. The Ukrainian managed to play two fights in the French championship.
“My first game was away, so it’s not that exciting. I was required to help the team keep the result, which we did. But in the home game, when there was a full stadium and a simply unreal atmosphere reigned, I was a little worried in the first half. In the second half, he came out more calm and, as a result, played better. There were some minor bugs, but I’m okay with that. Of course, in the next games you need to play more reliably, but for this you still need to get used to the team, because it is not so easy to immediately interact with partners and show fantastic football. But I think that I will quickly get involved and everything will be fine.
“In some ways, Marseille is similar to Atalanta, so I didn’t really worry about adapting. The way the team plays tactically was nothing new to me. For example, when I moved from Genk to Atalanta, everything was new for me – the position, football, and requirements. There isn’t much of a contrast here. The football that Marseille has been showing lately is of a very high level. All players understand what the coach requires of them.
I don’t really care where I play. The main thing is that I am useful to the team. The coach told me all the nuances. I think we will talk a lot more and he will tell his vision regarding me. The main thing for me is to understand what the coach requires of me in this or that position.
“I want to progress and adapt as quickly as possible, play more and benefit the team. In any case, it will be some kind of new impetus in your career. Now, at 29, I am not the same as I was three years ago – I already think differently, analyze and play differently. Therefore, I think that this is the best period for a football player. As they say, in the juice itself.
“I think first of all the club wants to get into the Champions League again. This is a top priority. There is also the French Cup, in which everything will also depend only on us. This is the shortest way to the trophy, so to speak. And in the championship we still have to win back most of it and it’s hard to make any predictions yet.”
Ruslan made his debut in a new team in an away match against Troyes (2:0). The Ukrainian came on as a substitute in the second half and received a yellow card. Later, Malinovsky from the first minutes appeared on the field in a home match with Lorient (3:1).
Marseille are third in Ligue 1, five points behind PSG. Malinovsky’s team will play the next match with Rennes on January 20 in the 1/16 finals of the French Cup.
