Athletistic/ Football. On Wednesday, January 25, it became known that already in 2024 the team selection system for the World and European Championships will change. The corresponding decision was announced after the meeting of the UEFA Executive Committee.
Thus, from 2024, 12 groups of 4 or 5 teams will be formed during the qualification phase. National teams that take first place will receive a direct ticket to the World Cup.
Teams finishing second in their group will automatically advance to the main stage or participate in the play-offs (with teams eligible to qualify for a place in the European Championship based on their performance in the Nations League).
Note that the new regulations will not affect the selection for Euro 2024, the innovation will come into effect during the qualifications for the 2026 planetary championship.
