former guardian Rangers and the Scotland national football team Andy Goram He said doctors diagnosed him with an oncological disease, due to which he had only six months to live.
Goram, 58, said he first felt unwell just under two months ago and was struggling to eat. He thought he was suffering from heartburn, and it wasn’t until the pain became “unbearable” and he noticed he had lost a lot of weight that he decided to see a doctor.
“I thought I had severe indigestion. As my esophagus is clogged. It got worse after a few weeks. I couldn’t see my doctor for two weeks, at that time I was at the agony, I lost about 25 kg.
I had a CT scan then was rushed to hospital and told my next of kin had to be with me. That’s when the alarm bell rang. I realized I had cancer, — quotes the words of Goram, the Scottish edition of the Daily Record.
He said doctors found he had fourth-degree esophageal cancer, the disease had spread to the liver, right lung, three vertebrae and ribs. Goram confirmed he had refused a course of chemotherapy, which could extend his life to nine months.
– Doing chemotherapy and suffering for three more months and zero quality of life? No thanks. Chemotherapy is excluded. My ex-wife Miriam had six rounds of chemotherapy and three x-rays. It was hellish. Her partner had to carry her up the stairs for weeks. My pain is manageable. I can still meet friends and fans and be myself. I will be here as long as I can.
Goram was a five-time Scottish champion and three-time Scottish Cup winner with Rangers. He made 43 appearances for Scotland.
