Spain’s Supreme Sports Council (CSD) says more than 10 Valladolid fans racially abused the striker real Madrid Vinicius Junior in the La Liga game last month, will be punished.
Police are collecting data before recommending penalties, which could include fines of 4,000 euros and a one-year ban on access to sports stadiums for anyone identified, the statement said. La Liga filed a complaint against the fans with the police.
Earlier this season, Spanish prosecutors opened an investigation into racial slurs against Vinicius by Atlético fans based on video footage of inappropriate chanting ahead of the Madrid derby last September. Prosecutors closed the investigation, saying it was not possible to charge a specific person despite the “abhorrent, inappropriate and disrespectful” nature of the chant.
