At home stadium address “Sampdoria” a letter arrived with a shotgun bullet inside. The envelope was addressed to Eduardo Garrone, the club’s former president, and Massimo Ferrero, who succeeded him in 2014 and is now the Genoese’s majority shareholder.
Along with the bullet, inside the envelope was a message, a death threat: “This time the bullet is empty, next time it will be real.” The incident is being investigated by the Italian Interior Ministry.
Sampdoria have debts of over €150m and are second-to-last in Serie A. Out of 20 games, the Genoese have won just two and drawn three, losing the rest.
