Lokomotiv defender Herman Conti said he hadn’t thought of moving to Lokomotiv for a long time, noting a desire to play in Europe again, and also called the Moscow side a “great club”.
On Monday, Lokomotiv announced the transfer of Conti from Portuguese Benfica. The 28-year-old Argentine’s deal with the Moscow club is designed for 2.5 years.
– How long have you thought about the transition? What was the deciding factor in moving here?
– First of all, the main factor for me was to try again for the European Championship. It’s a challenge for yourself. Compared to that, Argentina was not that interesting. I didn’t think too much about coming here.
“What did you hear about the Lokomotiv?”
– I know it’s a very big club, very well known, always in the leading roles in the Russian championship. It’s clear that Lokomotiv are going through a tough time right now, but they’re also aware of that. Together, we will try to get out of this situation and get back on our feet.
How did your family react to your move to Russia?
– There was a normal reaction, absolutely everyone accepted. It is clear that now it will be more difficult to get home, because before it only took me five hours. Now the road will be longer. But I’m still very happy that it happened that I came back to the European Championship, in such a big club. I hope everything goes well,” Conti told the Lokomotiv website.
Conti’s sporting rights belonged to Benfica since the summer of 2018, but the defender spent most of his time on loan with other teams. The player played for the Mexican “Atlas”, as well as for the Brazilians “Bahia” and “America”.
The Russian football season will resume on February 22 with the matches of the FONBET Cup of Russia, on March 3 the WORLD RPL will continue.
