On Wednesday, February 1, the next, already 19th FIFA Club World Cup starts in Morocco. Traditionally, the tournament, which will last until February 11, will be attended by one club from each of the six Confederations (winners of the continental club “championship” tournaments), as well as another club representing the host confederation. Why the championship is dated 2022

All in the World Cup for national teams. Due to the fact that the World Cup 2022 took place in the autumn-winter of last year, the usual dates for the Club World Cup – December – had to be moved to February.

By the way, FIFA has already practiced such a step. For example, due to the coronavirus, the 2020 Club World Cup was held in February 2021. Now it is noted that the Club World Cup 2023 will be held at the usual time – in December of this year.

Who will play in the 2022 FIFA Club World Cup?

This time, Real Madrid (winners of the Champions League 2021/2022), Brazilian Flamengo (winners of the Copa Libertadores 2022), American Seattle Sounders (winners of the CONCACAF Champions League 2022), Australian Auckland received tickets to the World Cup as winners of regional tournaments. (winner of the OFC Champions League), Moroccan Widad (winner of the CAF Champions), Saudi Al-Hilal (AFC Champions League).

Egyptian Al-Ahly will act as an additional team from the hosts of the tournament, since the host country – Morocco – is represented by the already mentioned winner of the African Champions League Wydad.

What are the regulations for the 2022 Club World Cup?

Even before the start of the tournament, three out of four participants in the second round, out of two out of four semi-finalists, are known. The representatives of Europe and Latin America receive direct tickets to the semi-finals, this time – Real and Flamengo.

Wydad, Al-Hilal and Seattle Sounders will play in the 2023 Club World Cup Quarter. The fourth team of this stage will be determined in the opening match of the tournament, in which Al-Ahly and Auckland will meet in Tangier on February 1.

Where will the 2022 FIFA Club World Cup matches take place?

The games will be held in two cities of Morocco – Tangier and Rabat. As mentioned above, the first one will host the opening match, as well as the fight for third place, the quarter-final with Seattle and the semi-final with Flamengo.

Rabat will host the final of the tournament, the semi-final with the participation of Real Madrid, as well as the quarter-final match between Wydad and Al-Hilal.

Club World Cup record holders

So far, only representatives of Europe and Latin America have won the tournament. UEFA teams have won the Club World Cup 14 times, CONMEBOL teams have won four. Moreover, all four times from Latin America the tournament was won by Brazilian clubs: Corinthians twice, International and Sao Paulo once each.

In Europe, the geography and, accordingly, the club representation is wider: seven times the club world championship was won by teams from Spain, three times from England, twice from Italy and Germany.

If we talk about clubs, then the record holder of the tournament is Real Madrid (four wins). Barcelona has won the Club World Cup three times, Corinthians and Bayern have won twice, Liverpool, Chelsea, Manchester United, Inter, Milan, Sao Paulo and Internacional have won once.

Of the participants in the current tournament, it is worth noting the Australian Auckland. For the team, the current Club World Cup is the 10th in history. For example, Real Madrid is participating in the tournament for the sixth time, Al-Ahly for the eighth.
