Egyptian Al Ahly beat new zealand “The City of Oakland” in the first round of the Club World Cup – 3:0.
In the seventh minute stoppage time of the second half, Oakland defender Adam Mitchell was sent off. The match referee made this decision after watching VAR, after which he explained his decision to the spectators in the stands into the microphone. The referee first awarded the New Zealand club a penalty, but after observing the moment, he canceled the penalty, as the rule violation occurred outside the penalty line, limited to one card red.
It was previously announced that the tournament will test this approach to VAR work, when decisions will be explained to the public in the stadium.
Al-Ahly has qualified for the second round of the tournament, where he will play with American club Seattle Sounders. The winner of this pair will face Real Madrid in the semi-finals.
The Club World Cup takes place in Morocco from February 1 to 11. The matches of the tournament are broadcast live on the federal channel , the thematic channels of the holding, as well as on the sites matchtv.ru and sportbox.ru.
