Midfielder “Roma” Nicolas Zaniolo published a letter in which he said he feared for his life after being threatened by club supporters.
The footballer has received death threats for his possible departure during the winter transfer window. Earlier, Roma head coach Jose Mourinho said the midfielder wants to leave the club.
“A lot has been said and written about me over the past few weeks, and a lot of it isn’t true.
At 23, I experienced what many of my teammates have not experienced in their entire career: fall, get up, fall, get up, win. Over the past few months, I have been going through a difficult time. However, I have always been dedicated on the pitch and in training with the utmost professionalism.
I was afraid for myself and for my family. I felt abandoned. This had never happened to me before, I was very scared. I put myself at the disposal of Roma, ”wrote the footballer.
The 23-year-old midfielder’s contract with Roma runs until the summer of 2024. Zaniolo has made 17 appearances in all competitions this season, scoring two goals and providing three assists.
Roma will face Empoli in the next round of the Italian league. The match is scheduled for February 4 and will be broadcast live on Match! Foot 1″. The show starts at 7:55 p.m. Moscow time.
