Development Director of the Russian Football Union (RFU) Maxim Mitrofanov told reporters that the International Football Federation (FIFA) and the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) have no desire to hit Russian football, the organizations are under pressure.
In early May, the UEFA Executive Committee took a number of decisions on the participation of Russian clubs and teams in competitions under the organization’s auspices. Russia will not be represented in European competition next season, the team will not play in the Nations League. Earlier on Saturday, RFU president Alexander Dyukov said the RFU was awaiting consideration and decision on an appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) against UEFA’s decision in June.
– The director of the European member associations of FIFA, Elkhan Mammadov, was present at the RFU conference and spoke very optimistically. Do you think optimism is warranted in the current situation?
— The main indicator that this optimism exists. Obviously, it demonstrates the real state of affairs, especially since a high-ranking representative was present at the conference. Mammadov’s job is next to FIFA’s deputy general secretary, and he makes speeches for a reason. In organizations like FIFA, there is no gag. FIFA’s position suggests that we are really staying in the football family, and the football family itself disagrees, they are under political pressure in the decisions they make.
Relations between the RFU leadership with the management of FIFA and UEFA, as our president says, are functioning and completely normal. International organizations have no desire to hit Russian football, they are also under pressure.
