We tell you what is known about the next plans of the organizers
The organizers of the European football Superleague, and there are only three of them left – Real Madrid, Barcelona and Juventus, do not leave attempts to realize their idea. According to the British The Telegraph, representatives of the three above-named clubs have already done some work in this direction, despite the failed attempt to launch the Super League in April 2021.
According to the publication, A22, which is based in Madrid and is a subsidiary of the Superleague, has already held consultations with more than 50 clubs on the creation of a tournament that should replace the Champions League. The main emphasis was placed on the football inequality between the clubs of the English Premier League and the rest. And in the new tournament should take part from 60 to 80 teams.
Perhaps this is all that is known about the future Superleague at the moment. The A22 guidelines only state that the current system in world football is unfair. “Clubs bear all the risks, but as soon as it comes to important decisions or the distribution of profits, they often find themselves on the sidelines.” The creation of the Superleague should solve this problem. And the new plan of the organizers includes 10 points
1. Increase in commands in comparison with the first option
According to the organizers, it is planned to create a tournament with the participation of 60-80 teams, which will allow for a fair distribution of income. Moreover, the formation of divisions will be carried out according to the sports principle. There will be no permanent “members” of the elite division. Qualification for the Super League will be based on the results of the clubs in the national championships.
2. The Super League will replace UEFA competitions, but not national championships
According to the organizers, national championships are the basis of football. “Clubs participating must play in national tournaments, as they do now. The creation of the Superleague will also strengthen the national championships.
3. Guaranteed 14 matches for each participant of the Superleague
With the financial results of the latest transfer window in which Chelsea spent more than all 78 clubs in France, Spain, Germany and Italy, the spending gap needs to be closed. According to the creators of the Superleague, guaranteed 14 matches in the tournament will help the clubs to receive a stable and predictable income.
4. Limited number of matches
Due to the concern of the footballer’s union and coaches of big clubs, who criticize the extremely busy calendar, the organizers of the Super League promise that the number of games after the creation of the tournament will not increase compared to today’s calendar.
5. Transparency of budgets
The organizers want the clubs’ spending to be based solely on the revenue generated, not the infusion of sponsors and wealthy owners.
6. Clear time frames
With the rising cost of Premier League television rights, as well as the increased interest in football in the US, the organizers are committed to ensuring that “the younger generation, interested in the global development of sports and digital entertainment in the US, continues to perceive football as the most beloved sport in the world” .
7. Increasing the presence of fans at away matches of their teams
True, it is not yet clear how to do this. The organizers believe that this problem can be solved through dialogue with the fans, but they say nothing about reducing the cost of tickets for away fans.
8. Increasing funding for women’s football
According to the organizers, “funding should be significantly more than what women’s club tournaments currently receive.”
9. Financial bonuses for lower division clubs
Superleague organizers are promising a minimum of $400 million to teams representing the minor leagues, twice what UEFA currently pays for European competition.
10. Compliance with EU laws
Having resigned themselves to the refusal of English clubs, Super League organizers are hoping that teams from the European Union will join them. To do this, all regulatory documents must comply with EU standards.
Recall that earlier Court of Justice of the European Union recognized as legal the rules of UEFA and FIFA, which provide for sanctions for teams trying to create a European Superleague. At the same time, UEFA President Aleksander Čeferin said that he saw no chance of creating a European Super League in the near future. The President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky opposed the creation of an elite tournament.
