“On the transfer of the RFU to Asia, it’s not a question of football that bothers me, but a question of logistics” – Kirichenko

Sochi coach Dmitry Kirichenko admitted that on the question of the transfer from the RFU to the Asian Football Confederation, he is confused by the logistical aspect.

– If UEFA told us, conditionally, that we were suspended for 10 years – that’s a moment. But, as far as I know, our leaders communicate with European and Asian colleagues. Maybe they have more classified information.

In Asia, it’s not even the question of football that troubles me, but the logistical question. It’s hard to imagine our team’s participation in the Asian Champions League. Every two weeks to fly from Moscow and St. Petersburg to Japan, South Korea, etc.? Yes, we also have Khabarovsk and Vladivostok. But it’s one flight per season and then when they were in the RPL. But flying all the time, changing time zones… And everyone understands that there are better quality teams in Europe,” Kirichenko told the Championship.

At the end of February 2022, FIFA and UEFA suspended Russian teams and clubs from participating in international tournaments due to the situation in Ukraine. The RFU considered the possibility of moving to the AFC, but it was decided to create a working group with the participation of representatives of UEFA and FIFA, which will discuss the prospects for Russian football in more detail. On February 1, 2023, the AFC Congress was held in Manama (Bahrain), where the head of the RFU, Alexander Dyukov, was present.

The Russian football season will resume on February 22 with the matches of the FONBET Russian Cup. On March 3, the WORLD RPL draw will continue.
