Offensive “Orenburg” Vladimir Obukhov spoke about his current form after serving his suspension.
In July 2021, FIFA announced Obukhov’s suspension for six months for an anti-doping rule violation, but on June 27, the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) extended the striker’s suspension for another six months, until to December 17, 2022.
– In general, everything is fine. I started training in mid-October. I managed to train with the team for a month and a half, then I went on vacation. He continued to train and as a result met the team at training camp for the second time. The first two camps were quite heavy, serious loads.
Gave several interviews on the disqualification. Basically, he’s already gone through everything. Probably the hardest moment was when I first learned of Bezuglov, when he was still the head doctor for the Russian team. Then it was still about the four years of disqualification and so on. Specifically, they realized that the statute of limitations was already long. Then it was a maximum of two years. But FIFA admitted that it was not my fault, it was only indirect. Therefore, they said that we give you the minimum possible – that is, six months. And there already the AMA intervened, if I understand correctly, with such a clause that they did not agree in the sense that someone had two years, and someone six months.
Didn’t that sound crazy to you when they extended it for another six months? Of course, madness. FIFA says yes, it’s not your fault. We make a deal, sign a peace deal. And literally a year later, that is when I was still playing for Orenburg in FNL, I went with the team to the Premier League, arrived at training camp and on the very first day, the lawyer calls me and says you’ve been extended for another six months. Thinking of quitting football? Such thoughts were, probably, when I first heard about it, because they talked there for four years, two years. But it worked like that. You can’t do anything about it. It remains only to continue playing, – said Obukhov.
Obukhov graduated from Spartak, for whom he started playing professionally in 2012. Since then, the striker has also played for Torpedo, Kuban, Mordovia, Tambov, Sochi and Rostov. At the beginning of 2022, the footballer signed a contract with Orenburg.
