Serie A clubs approve the increase in the limit of foreign athletes

After voting, the clubs from Série A of the Brasileirão unanimously approved the increase in the limit of foreign players in national competitions

This Tuesday, the 14th, the Serie A clubs of the Brasileirão unanimously approved the increase in the limit of foreign players related to the games. Now, seven athletes born outside Brazil are allowed for each team. The voting took place during the Technical Council of the Brasileirão, at the headquarters of CBFin Rio de Janeiro.

In recent weeks, the movement in favor of the increase has been gaining strength, starting from the São Paulo, which has eight foreign athletes in its roster and was having problems for that. Other clubs that have more than five gringos in their squad also expressed their support, such as Athletico Paranaese, Corinthians It is Guild. In the decision, the 20 teams complied and accepted the request.

On the case, the CBF carried out an in-depth study that pointed out the pros and cons of the measure. In addition to presenting a research involving Ecuadorian football. At the end of last year, clubs in Ecuador also voted to increase the number of foreign players on the roster from six to eight.

In the context of South American football, the Ecuadorian league is the one that most accepts players not born in the country among those listed. In Argentina, clubs can have up to six foreigners in their squad, however, to relate to the matches, only five players were allowed, as happened in Brazil until today.

For the CBF, there are two important points in this discussion. Even if the Brasileirão is consolidating itself as the biggest league on the continent, there is a possible impact on the base categories if foreigners are released in the country. With more gringos available, young Brazilians would have less space in the squads.
