Deputy head of NBU: The effectiveness of Mudrik or Zabarny in the Premier League will have an impact on our foreign exchange market and our monetary decisions

This winter, Shakhtar and Dynamo earned big money on transfers

Deputy head of the NBU Sergey Nikolaychuk commented the impact of the latest transfers of Ukrainian football players on our currency market.

“I think that the influx of foreign currency in the volumes generated by the sales of football players is really important for our foreign exchange market. At the same time, as I remember, individual payments for individual players are very dependent on bonuses for their performances.

“Given this factor, it seems to me that now the effectiveness of Mudrik or Zabarny in the English Premier League will have, maybe not a direct, but an indirect impact on our foreign exchange market and our monetary decisions.”

“This is a new word in monetary policy: the dependence of the functions, the reaction of the National Bank on the performance of individual football players in the English Premier League.”

Recall that in winter Shakhtar winger Mikhail Mudrik became a Chelsea player in January. Chelsea and Shakhtar agreed to move Mudrik for 100 million euros.

Defender Dynamo Ilya Zabarny signed with Bournemouth in January until 2028. The total amount of the transfer could reach around 25 million euros.

Also Dynamo winger Victor Tsygankov signed a contract with Girona until the summer of 2027. The Spanish club paid five million euros for the midfielder. Also, Dynamo will receive 50% of the amount of the subsequent resale of Tsygankov.
