Without the Ukrainian, Brugge lost to Benfica
Brugge head coach Scott Parker explained why did not release the Ukrainian striker Roman Yaremchuk in the first match 1/8 finals of the Champions League against Benfica (0:2).
“He didn’t play today, but that doesn’t mean anything. I thought the game was going to go head-to-head in the second half, so I thought Jutgla would be a better fit as a substitute.”
The 27-year-old striker has made 19 appearances for Brugge this season in all competitions, scoring two goals and two assists.
Recall that in August last year, Yaremchuk moved to Brugge from Benfica for 16 million euros, signing a contract until 2026. Roman made 48 appearances for the Portuguese club, scoring nine goals and making eight assists.
The second leg between Brugge and Benfica will take place on 7 March. The game starts at 22:00 Kyiv time.
