Andriy Shevchenko: I feel obligated to help those who left their wives and children to defend our right to freedom

The ex-player of Milan asks the Italians not to forget that there is a war in Ukraine

Former Ukrainian footballer and ex-coach of the Ukrainian national team Andrey Shevchenko said that his country still needs the attention and help of the West during the war against Russia.

“The Western world has taken our side, and we are grateful for that. We are aware that every day we ask for more, but without the West and the values of freedom, democracy and civilization that it represents, we would not be able to do this.”

“When I went to Irpin in August, I visited the familiar stadium, where I played in the youth team of Dynamo. There I saw two children running with a ball between the craters that had left the bombs. At that moment, I promised myself to do everything to allow the new generations of Ukraine to play football again.”

“Everything has changed, even I can’t complain about anything today. We think of the soldiers and those who are on the front line, saving our country. I feel obligated to help those who left their wives and children to defend our right to freedom.”

“I understand the Italians who have stopped thinking about Ukraine, but we have no other choice but to draw your attention again. The conflict continues and there are entire destroyed cities that need to be rebuilt. Don `t forget about Us”.

Earlier, Andriy Shevchenko met with the families of Ukrainian ultras. Shevchenko joined the Tribune of Heroes program. A well-known mentor made a contribution to the organization in the amount of 400 thousand hryvnias.

Andriy Shevchenko also called on the IOC to prevent Russians and Belarusians from participating in international competitions until the end of the war in Ukraine.

Russia’s war against Ukraine has been going on for 359 days.
