Old owner chelsea Roman Abramovich released an official statement following the conclusion of a definitive agreement to sell the London club to a consortium of American businessman Todd Bowley.
Chelsea confirmed on May 7 that they had agreed terms for the sale of the team to the Bowley Consortium. The deal to buy the Blues’ stake is for £2.5billion, with a further £1.75billion set aside by the new owners for further investment in club interests.
On Saturday, the London club officially announced the change of ownership. The deal will close on May 30.
It’s been almost three months since I announced my intention to sell Chelsea. Meanwhile, the team worked hard to find the right owner for Chelsea who would be able to take the club to the next level.
Owning this club comes with a lot of responsibility. Since I arrived at Chelsea almost twenty years ago, I have seen with my own eyes what this club can achieve. My aim was for the next owner to have a mindset that will ensure the success of the men’s and women’s teams, as well as the desire and drive to continue to develop other key aspects of the club, such as the academy and the job lifeblood of the Chelsea Foundation.
I am happy that this search was successful. As I hand over Chelsea to their new coaches, I wish them well on and off the pitch.

Abramovich bought Chelsea in 2003. In March he was removed from the job due to being on the UK sanctions list.
At the end of the season, Chelsea finished 3rd in the Premier League table with 74 points.
