Shakhtar newcomer Kelsey: First of all, I want to adapt to the team and partners, and then help with goals and titles

The Venezuelan striker went with Shakhtar to the Europa League match against Rennes

Rookie Shakhtar Venezuelan forward Kevin Kelsey told about the first days of stay in the Ukrainian club.

“Happy to be here in this big club. I’m glad I was invited. Now is the time to join the team and learn as much as possible with it. Everyone received me very well. Taras Stepanenko introduced me to the team. We talked with him about languages. Taras will help me with English, and I will help him with Spanish.”

“I was training with the national team when they contacted me. I was very happy. Shakhtar is a great team that helps players grow. It also contributed to accepting the offer and coming here in a good mood. I will play under the number 18, because under it I scored my first goal. I watched Shakhtar’s game against Real Madrid, I saw the Pitmen’s struggle with big clubs.”

“In Shakhtar’s matches, I see the intensity of my team’s performance, discipline. I also want to learn this. First of all, at Shakhtar I want to adapt to the team and partners, and then help with goals and titles. As for the philosophy of the team and the coach, everything is great: high intensity, emphasis on pressing and other points that will help us achieve our goals.

“I just wish your country to move on. I hope this can be completed as quickly as possible so that we can return to better times.”

Recall that in January, Kelsey signed a contract with Shakhtar until the end of 2028. As part of the Venezuela U20 team, Kelsey played at the South American Youth Championship. There, the Venezuelans took 5th place. Kelsey played 8 matches without scoring goals.

Kelsey traveled with Shakhtar to the second leg of the Europa League play-off against Rennes. Igor Jovićević’s team beat Rennes in the first leg (2:1).

The second leg in France will take place on 23 February. The fight will start at 22:00 Kyiv time. The meeting will be served by the German team of referees headed by Tobias Stieler.
