The Ukrainian will hold the next fight on February 25 in Dublin
Ukrainian champion Bellator welterweight Yaroslav Amosov said he was persuaded to return to MMA in order to tell the whole world about Ukraine.
“Over time, I began to understand what my family and friends were talking about. Basically, get back into MMA, get back to fighting and spread the word. Tell people what is happening in Ukraine. That’s why I came back.”
“Every time I face difficulties or feel tired from training, I can’t help but think of my friends and family who are now in Ukraine. How much harder it is for them in the trenches, defending their country. This allows you to see things in perspective. I want to thank them and it changed my motivation.”
“I want to win. I want to return the belt home to Ukraine. I think it means more now than ever. For my country, which I love, it means everything.”
“War leaves traces, and it definitely left a mark on me. And it’s not over yet, it’s still going on and people are still dying. They attack civilians, fly and drop bombs, killing innocent people left and right. What is the explanation for this?
“As soon as this fight is over, I will return to Ukraine,” the athlete said.
The Ukrainian will fight next on February 25 in Dublin as part of the Bellator 291 show. Yaroslav’s opponent will be Logan Storley, who owns the interim champion title.
On May 13, Amosov was supposed to fight with Briton Michael Page, but he refused to fight and remained in Ukraine during the period of Russian military aggression. After the start of a full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine, Amosov joined the ranks of the territorial defense of Irpen, which was under the occupation of Russian troops.
Amosov became the Bellator Champion in June 2021 by defeating Brazilian Douglas Lima via unanimous decision. Yaroslav became the first Ukrainian to win the organization’s championship title.
