Semplici appointed as new head coach of Spezia

Viktor Kovalenko’s team fights for survival in Serie A

new Spezia’s head coach officially became Leonardo Semplici. The contract runs until the end of the current season.

If Semplici manages to save Spezia from relegation from Serie A, then the agreement will be automatically extended until the summer of 2025. The 55-year-old Italian specialist in Serie A has previously worked with Cagliari and SPAL.

As head coach, Semplici replaced Luca Gotti, who was fired a week ago. At the moment, the team is 17th in the Serie A standings, 2 points to the relegation zone. On February 26, Spezia will play away against Udinese.

Recall that Ukrainian midfielder Viktor Kovalenko is playing in Spezia. This season he has played in 11 matches for the team in all competitions.

Kovalenko will miss several weeks due to a right adductor injury. He was injured in the match of the 20th round of the Italian championship with Bologna (0:2) and was replaced in the 18th minute. In this match, the midfielder came out in the starting lineup.
