The Swiss Supreme Court rejected the RFU’s appeal to be suspended from official competitions.
The last loophole for Russian football clubs and the national team is now closed. The Swiss Supreme Court rejected the RFU’s appeal against UEFA’s decision and previous courts.
It will be recalled that immediately after the widespread invasion of the Kremlin troops in Ukraine, FIFA and UEFA suspended the representatives of Russia from participating in the competition.
The Russian Football Union decided to appeal this decision and filed appeals with the CAS. However, the Court of Arbitration for Sport predictably rejected all the arguments of the aggressor country.
The last resort for Russians is the Swiss Supreme Court, which is the highest authority for appealing CAS decisions. However, here too they failed. The reason is common – they do not have time to submit documents.
“The appeal was filed out of time and, therefore, cannot be considered. Therefore, the judge declares the appeal inadmissible. No costs are charged or awarded. This decision is brought to the attention of the parties and CAS,” TASS quoted the court as saying.
It should be noted that according to court rules, the RFU had 30 days to file an appeal, but did not meet the allotted time. Thus, the disqualification of the Russians remained in effect.
