Sergio did not receive a call from Luis Enrique for the 2022 World Cup
Experienced Defender Sergio Ramos announced the end of his international career with the Spanish national team.
“I will continue to cheer for my country from home with the emotions of someone who has been able to proudly represent it in 180 matches. Thank you from the bottom of my heart to everyone who has always believed in me,” Ramos wrote on social media.
Sergio did not receive a call from Luis Enrique for the 2022 World Cup. The coach of the Spanish national team was severely criticized by fans and the media, refusing the services of two veterans – Ramos and David de Gea.
36-year-old Sergio is the record holder of the Spanish national team in the number of matches played (180). With Furia Roja, Ramos became a two-time European champion and world champion.
At the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, Spain advanced from the group but lost to Morocco in the round of 16 on penalties. After the elimination from the World Cup, Luis Enrique resigned.
In his place was appointed Luis de la Fuente, who previously worked with youth teams. He did not rule out the possible return of Ramos to the Rohi Fury.
