The Russian Football Union (RFU) does not plan to withdraw Russian clubs and teams from international football tournaments within 3-5 years, RFU chief Alexander Dyukov told reporters.
In early May, the executive committee of the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) took a number of decisions regarding the participation of Russian clubs and teams in competitions under the organization’s auspices. Russia will not be represented in European competition next season, the team will not play in the Nations League. Earlier on Saturday, Dyukov said the RFU was awaiting a review and decision on an appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) against UEFA’s decision in June.
– As for the suspension of international competitions, we do not envisage such a horizon (3-5 years of suspension). There are two suspension decisions for the 2022/23 season. We do not agree and have appealed to the CAS. We look forward to hearing on the merits.
The words of UEFA President Aleksander Ceferin that our clubs will not soon return to European competition, which appeared in the press, are not a very good translation. We are talking about the short term, the 2022/23 season.
Creation of the Shakhtar club in the DPR? I learned about these blueprints from you. More information is needed,” Dyukov told a news conference.
