Coach sees potential in Ukrainian winger
Former Chelsea manager Abraham Grant urged fans to believe in the young Blues winger Mikhail Mudrik. At the same time, the coach refused to compare Mudrik with his former ward, Andriy Shevchenko.
“[Мудрик] is a good player. I don’t want to talk too much about him at Chelsea, but he’s a good player, there’s no doubt about that. But I hope they come up with a good strategy that will allow him to showcase his talent in the best possible way.”
“Shevchenko is a great talent. I cannot compare them. Shevchenko at his best was arguably the best player in the world. This is a fantastic player, just incredible. Unfortunately, I worked with him at the end of his career, but at his peak he was the best striker in the world. Smart, good quality. [Мудрику] it will be difficult to reach Shevchenko’s level. But I don’t think they need to be compared. Everyone should squeeze the maximum of their qualities out of their talent.”
Abraham Grant worked as Chelsea manager from 2007 to 2008. Under his leadership, the Blues reached the 2007/08 Champions League final, where they lost on penalties to Manchester United, and also finished in second place in the Premier League, losing the title to the same Manchester United.
Since his move from Shakhtar to Chelsea in January, Mikhail has made five appearances for the London club. The Ukrainian did not differ in effective actions.
The Blues are in 10th place in the Premier League standings.
