Igor Tudor, DT of Marseille: “I always said that the title depended on PSG, on the way they play”

The coach of Alexis Sánchez regrets the fall, but says that with the level displayed by Paris Saint-Germain, playing in Ligue 1 is an impossible goal. “They can always win 5 or 6-0,” he said.

There is sadness in Marseille. Who expected a classic match against PSG was wrong, since the team from the capital passed over the dockers. The 3-0, with two goals from Kylian Mbappé and one from Lionel Messi, is a blow for Alexis Sánchez’s men, eight points behind the leaders. After the duel, Igor Tudor focused his analysis on the praise of the French gunner.

“Mbappé had too many spaces because he comes from another planet, PSG were very motivated that day. They hadn’t been seen like this for a long time. We did the best we could, ”says the strategist.

In this line, the DT assures that the losses were painful on Sunday, but that, probably, it would not have been a very different scenario, due to the level exhibited by the opponent. “The absent defenders didn’t help, but I don’t think their presence would have made a difference,” he said, opening up.

Despite a positive initial fraction, once Paris Saint-Germain had some lucidity in attack, the outlook deteriorated for Olympique. “They have this winning mentality, they are focused and running, it’s amazing the way they play. Look at Marco Verrati, it’s been a long time since I’ve seen him cover so much ground. I can only congratulate them,” insists Tudor.

A few weeks ago, Marseille eliminated PSG from the Coupe de France. For Igor Tudor, the big difference with this duel was the presence of the French striker. “If we compare the two parties, the difference lies in their number of seven of them. We gave it our all and we played the same way,” he said.

Far from it, the boss claims that was never his goal as PSG make too much of a difference at home level. “I never talked about the title. We are far, I always said that the championship depended on them, on their way of playing. If they do like before us, they will win every game 5 or 6-0.” are his words about it.

The guard raises his voice

For his part, Olympique de Marseille goalkeeper Pau López assured that he could not blame his teammates. “We had the same mentality as the Coupe de France match. I really can’t say anything about the boys. Our game like that,” he said.

The goalkeeper assures that they may have risked more than necessary, but that’s part of the essence of his team. “Our game is like that. It’s easy, too easy to say that we take risks, but the truth is that we have reached this position by playing duels in this way. This is the reality,” he said.

Alexis Sánchez’s team is stagnating at 52 units, eight out of the 60 that PSG have. Even with dates to come, it looks more and more complex for the port team to snatch the Ligue 1 title from the Parisians, who must receive Nantes the next day then go to Bayern Munich in the Champions League.
