Ukraine finished qualifying for the 2023 World Cup in 5th place in the group
Forward of the Ukrainian national basketball team Bogdan Bliznyuk commented 2023 World Cup qualifying result and a victory over the Netherlands (72:56) in the final qualifying match.
“We played well defensively, the Netherlands only got 56 points and when you miss that much you can always win the game. I am happy with the victory, but it is a pity that we lost to Italy and lost our chances. Looking forward to the next selection. As a result, we were just a little short of getting to the World Cup. We lost to Iceland a match that should not have been lost. In the next selection, you can’t give anything away, you have to take all your matches. This is the main lesson for us.”
“We are grateful to the fans in Riga, Ukrainian fans who support us here. We have created all the conditions for basketball, but still it is in no way comparable with performances in Kyiv or in any other city of Ukraine. It has its own energy, we are at home there, and it is much better to play at home. We are waiting for our victory and return home.”
The team of Ainars Bagatskis failed to qualify for the 2023 World Cup. The Ukrainian team finished fifth in Group L with 14 points.
