Ukrainian football stars thanked the ultras for their contribution to the defense of our homeland from Russian military aggression
The second part of the 2022/2023 football season started in Ukraine today. A season that takes place during Russia’s large-scale military aggression against our country. The season, which again goes without spectators in the stands for safety reasons. A season in which news about the actions of football club fans does not come from the stadiums, but from the fronts. And the majority of ultras of all teams without exception take part in the defense of Ukraine from the invasion of Russian invaders.
Before the start of the second part of the championship, famous Ukrainian football players and coaches, as part of the Tribune of Heroes initiative, turned to football fans, thanking them for their dedication and patriotism, as well as assuring them of their support. The appeal to the ultras was recorded by Volodymyr Yezereskiy, Roman Zozulya, Taras Stepanenko, Sergei Sidorchuk, Ruslan Rotan, Maksim Imerekov, Dmitry Khomchenovsky.
“Before the return of big football to Ukrainian stadiums, I am glad to join this appeal and fully support every word. It is difficult to overestimate the feat of Ukrainian football fans, who were among the first to defend their native land, starting from 2014,” Volodymyr Yezereskiy said.
“That is why I have supported the Tribune of Heroes charitable foundation from the very beginning of its activity and continue to say that today the football family should be united more than ever. The time will come when we will be able to meet again at the stadiums of our free Motherland, rejoice at the beautiful game on the field and remember all the Heroes of this war.”
Tribune of Heroes is a unique charitable foundation created for systemic financial support to the families of football fans who died in the war from all over Ukraine. The project has already received support from football players, clubs, federations and famous personalities
It should be noted that 90 families of football fans from all over Ukraine have already received financial assistance. 83 families receive monthly assistance. In total, for the period August 2022 – January 2023, UAH 6,210,000 of financial assistance was provided to the families of the deceased fans.
The defender of Azovstal, Mikhail Dianov, released from the captivity of the Russian Federation, donated 1 million hryvnias to the Tribune of Heroes foundation. Ukrainian coach Serhiy Rebrov donated 100,000 hryvnias to the charity fund. Also, Andriy Shevchenko joined the program of the fund. The famous Ukrainian footballer and mentor made a contribution of 400,000 hryvnias.
