“Beer in stadiums will not affect security during football matches” – RFU chief

President of the Russian Football Union (RFU) Alexander Diukov believes that the initiative of the Moscow authorities to allow the sale of alcohol in sports facilities will not lead to violations of public order at football matches.

On May 11, the Moscow authorities authorized the sale of alcohol at less than 16.5% in sports facilities. As indicated in the resolution, this permit will be valid as part of an experiment until the end of this year. In addition, the sale of alcohol in museums and concert halls is allowed, but with an appropriate license.

– The RFU supports the return of beer to football stadiums. Beer in stadiums will not affect security during matches, but will help clubs financially.

Beer has not sold for a long time, I would not like to start with such a match (the final of the Russian Cup). It would be fair for clubs to test the sale in RPL matches, Dyukov told reporters.

The ban on the sale of beer and other alcoholic products in stadiums has been in force in Russia since 2005. On December 13, 2019, the State Duma adopted in first reading a bill to lift the ban on the retail sale of beer during official football competitions.
