Rotan: England is the same team, for the victory over which they give three points

Youth team and Alexandria mentor Ruslan Rotan commented on his appointment as acting head coach of the national football team.

“In fact, it is a great honor and pride for me that I was entrusted with the national team of the country. First of all, I want to say that for the fact that I am now acting for the game with England, first of all, we must thank our soldiers. To whom it is difficult – so it is for them. We should not be afraid of the responsibility for this match, because it is much harder for our soldiers to be on the front line than it is for us to prepare for the game and conduct it. However, we understand that we will also defend the honor of the country, so we must approach it very responsibly.

“England is the same team, for the victory over which they give three points. There are no invincible teams in the world, we all, together with the players and coaches, must understand that you can also play against this opponent and achieve results. We will count on quality football. The game will show everything.

“Today it is one of the best teams on the planet, and the World Cup has shown that it is developing correctly. This is a fairly strong progressive team, and in terms of the quality of the game, perhaps, it is in the top 5.

“I think that somewhere by March 5-6 we will already recognize all the players who will be called to the training camp and will be included in the reserve list. We will talk with the future head coach and, I think, we will come to a conclusion about these numbers.”

“Actually, it all started from our conversation with UAF President Andrey Pavelko, and later with Sergey Rebrov and team captain Andrey Yarmolenko. That’s how we agreed on my participation. So I will be in touch with Sergei Rebrov before the announcement of the list of called-ups – we will definitely go through the names – both during the training camp and before the match with England. My task is to help the national team, and I am ready to make every effort for this. That is why I accepted the offer to become the acting head coach.”

The agreement with Rotan will be valid until the entry into force of the contract with Sergei Rebrov, with whom the administration of the UAF conducts negotiations on behalf of the executive committee.

Rotan’s coaching staff will include assistant Sergey Kravchenko, physical training coaches Evgeny Baryshnikov and Ivan Bashtovoy, goalkeeping coach Vitaly Reva, analyst coaches Evgeny Gres and Vladimir Lazarenko.

The Ukrainian national team will start its training camp on March 19. The Blue-Yellows will be based in London. As part of the training camp, Ukraine will spar with Brentford.

Recall that the Blue-Yellows will play in Group C against Italy, England, North Macedonia and Malta in the Euro 2024 qualifying tournament. On March 26, Ukraine will play the opening match of the Euro 2024 qualifier against England. All matches of the blue-yellows will be broadcast on ICTV channel as part of the all-Ukrainian telethon “United News”.
