Shakhtar midfielder received a debut challenge from Petrakov
Midfielder of Shakhtar Daniel Ignatenko shared his impressions of the debut call to the national national team of Ukraine.
The Ukrainian spent the second part of last season on loan in French Bordeaux, who did not help escape relegation to the second division.
“The call to the national team was unexpected for me. I’ve been waiting for this moment for a very long time. It was a childhood dream, I am very glad that it came true. I know all the players here, I played with all of them in the Ukrainian championship. I played with them both in Dnipro-1 and in Shakhtar,” Ignatenko said.
“In Bordeaux, I did everything that depended on me. I tried to help the team in difficult times, but failed. I squeezed the maximum out of myself, but it’s not for me to judge: there are coaches, the press, people. In the national team I will compete with other players. Football is a sport where two guys in the same position cannot play. Whoever is stronger will play. This is good, because due to competition, you only become stronger. ”
“I really liked the game against Scotland. Completely outplayed the opponent, they did not have a single chance. Only at the end of the game there were chances, but this was not enough, so a 100% victory for Ukraine. Wales are a very good opponent. This team is strong individually, at the expense of individual players. There will be problems, but we will analyze them in theory and try to neutralize them.”
“I hope that from the first match I will get into the squad. But it’s up to the coach to decide, we’ll see. I have been waiting for this for a long time and really want to start training with the team.”
Tomorrow, June 5, Alexander Petrakov’s team will play against Wales in the World Cup qualification final. The match starts at 19:00 Kyiv time.
As part of Bordeaux, Ignatenko played 11 matches in which he gave three assists.
