Former Spartak football player and now manager Igor Shalimov told that the Red-Whites had contacted him three times about his work at the club, but negotiations were ‘slowed down from within’ all the time.
Shalimov played for Spartak from 1986 to 1991. The last club in the 54-year-old specialist’s coaching career was the Urals.
– Have you ever been contacted by Spartak all the time?
– There were times, but not as a head coach. They called me assistant, they called me to the club system, to Spartak-2. But each time, someone was slowing down the process from within. Now I think these people are not in Spartak. Therefore, I am waiting with a positive attitude,” Shalimov said in an interview with .
– Did anyone from the Fedun team slow down the process?
– I think so. But I don’t know for sure if this information reached him. Three times they came out to me – three times the hangup was given. That’s for sure.
– Could this be related to the statements in the interview?
– I never said anything bad about Spartak. Moreover, it did not become personal.
– It was not a very successful situation with Kononov.
– I didn’t talk about him as a coach. Even if he’s the only one I can say much about. Because I worked with him.
– Are you surprised that he did not succeed in Spartak?
– No. When he was named, I predicted what happened. But I don’t want to talk more about his coaching qualities.
