General Director of Kryvbas Baenko: We only need newcomers who will be stronger than the players we have

Kryvbas plans to invite military to its matches

General Director of Kryvbas Vladimir Baenko spoke about staffing of the team and about whether there are chances to play home matches in Krivoy Rog.

“If there is even a tenth of a percent chance to play a UPL home match in Krivoy Rog, we will play in Krivoy Rog. We will do our best to play in our hometown. Of course, not everything depends on us, but the club’s management is working to ensure that we play at home. For the team to enter the match to the anthem of the city of Krivoy Rog, and, I really hope, to the applause of the fans.”

“First of all, if I had the opportunity, I would invite the military to our match. They have only a few days off, and at the match of their favorite team they could relax and get distracted, watch football. I support the idea of President Veres, this is a very good step. We must live, we must move on. The first message on this issue is already there. We all need to get together, discuss and move this idea forward.”

“In the summer we assembled a team almost from scratch. We didn’t take players on long-term contracts to see who would help us and who wouldn’t. Therefore, we planned the following: if the player can convince us with his game that we can count on him, then in the winter we will sit down and discuss a new contract. As time has shown, at the start of the championship, we lacked not qualified players, but teamwork. After all, the same players shot at the end of the season, although at first not everything was successful.

“This indicates not the quality of the performers, but the lack of time. Therefore, in the winter off-season, we understood who we needed to take. We discussed this at the beginning of autumn, so we already entered the first gathering with three newcomers who will take the positions from which the performers will leave. Plus, we extended contracts with those we count on, and then we planned to complete one or two positions. So far, we are selecting candidates very carefully.”

“A lot of potential newcomers did not suit us. Plus, our players worked well and the youth showed themselves well. I believe in our players, I see a huge potential in our team. We see with the president how coaches work and we fully trust them. We just need time. I’m not saying there won’t be newcomers. Negotiations are underway. But we only want those who are stronger than the players we have.”

During the winter break in the championship, defender Timur Stetskov, midfielders Nikita Tatarkov and Rifet Kapic, striker Roman Debelko and goalkeeper Andriy Klischuk extended their contracts with Kryvbas. The club from Krivoy Rog also signed defensive midfielder Klim Prikhodko and signed former winger Zorya Maxim Lunev.

Kryvbas takes eighth place in the UPL. In the first match after the resumption of the championship, the Vernyduba team will host Kolos on March 3
