Before “Spartacus » Quincy Promes obtained Russian citizenship thanks to his contribution to Russian football, former player and coach of the Moscow club Valery Gladilin told .
In February 2021, Promes spoke of his desire to become a Russian citizen. Earlier, the Ministry of Sports of the Russian Federation told that the department refused Spartak to send an application for citizenship to Promes. According to the club’s press service, the refusal to send the documents is due to the fact that the examination of the cases involving Promes continues in the Netherlands. “I am all for Promes getting citizenship. He’s a good guy. It is not known if he is guilty in this criminal case, it may be a provocation. Promes deserved to obtain Russian citizenship. He has done a lot for Spartak and Russian football in general, and will do a lot in the future.
I would give him citizenship immediately. I don’t think the Department of Sports is against it either, they’re unlikely to see him as a bad person, there are just legal issues that don’t allow it to happen now,” said Gladilin at .
Promes played for Spartak in 2014-2018, in 2021 the striker returned to the Moscow club. This season, the 31-year-old Dutchman has made 25 appearances for the Red-Whites in all competitions, scoring 18 goals.
